Roblox FPS unlocker: what works on PC, Mac, and mobile

rbxfpsunlocker on Windows is the only real FPS unlocker. There is no Mac or mobile version — here is why, and what to do instead.

Updated May 28, 20266 min read

The short version

Roblox caps frame rate by default — 60 FPS on PC, the screen's native refresh rate on Mac, and 60 FPS on every mobile platform regardless of what your hardware can do. The official Roblox client has no setting to raise that cap.

An "FPS unlocker" is a small external tool that lifts the cap on PC. On every other platform, no such tool exists — and the few that claim to are either useless, fake, or malware.

This guide covers what works on each platform:

  • Windows PC — Use rbxfpsunlocker by axstin (github.com/axstin/rbxfpsunlocker). Free, open-source, the only widely-trusted PC unlocker.
  • macOS — No unlocker exists. The Roblox Mac client is locked to display refresh rate by the renderer; you cannot bypass it.
  • Android — No unlocker exists. In-game graphics settings are the only lever.
  • iOS — No unlocker exists. Recent iPhones with ProMotion (120Hz) get higher FPS for free if Roblox decides to render at the device's full refresh rate, but you cannot force it.

The rest of this guide covers each platform in detail, what FPS unlocker can and cannot do, and why the "mobile FPS unlocker" results you see online are scams.

Why Roblox caps the FPS in the first place

Two reasons. First, animation timing: many older Roblox games tie game logic to frame rate using wait() instead of delta-time. Letting the client run at 240 FPS makes those games run too fast (characters slide instead of walk, projectiles teleport instead of fly). Capping at 60 was a compatibility decision that has never been reversed.

Second, anti-cheat: a high refresh rate gives client-side exploits more frames to read game state and inject overlays per second. The cap is one of several friction points Roblox keeps in place to slow that down.

Neither reason makes the cap pleasant for players on 144 Hz or 240 Hz monitors. PC users have built around it.

PC — rbxfpsunlocker (the only legit option)

The widely-trusted PC unlocker is rbxfpsunlocker by axstin. It is free, open-source on GitHub, and has been the de facto standard since 2018. It runs as a tiny external process that scans Roblox's memory and rewrites the FPS-cap value at runtime — no DLL injection, no patched Roblox executable, no executor footprint.

How to install and use it on Windows:

  1. Go to github.com/axstin/rbxfpsunlocker and click Releases. Download the latest rbxfpsunlocker-x64.zip.
  2. Extract the ZIP into a permanent folder (e.g., C:\rbxfpsunlocker\). Do not run it from the browser download or from %TEMP%.
  3. Windows SmartScreen will flag the unsigned executable on first launch. Click More info → Run anyway. This warning is expected for any unsigned utility.
  4. Microsoft Defender quarantines the binary on a fraction of machines. To get past this, add an exclusion for the rbxfpsunlocker folder in Defender → Virus & threat protection → Manage settings → Exclusions.
  5. Double-click rbxfpsunlocker.exe. A small icon appears in the system tray.
  6. Right-click the tray icon, set FPS Cap to your monitor's refresh rate (or 0 for unlimited). The setting persists across Roblox launches.
  7. Launch Roblox normally. The cap is lifted as soon as the client process starts.

The tool does nothing while Roblox is closed — it sits in the tray and waits. Exit it from the tray when you are done.

Detection risk

In 2026, Roblox's anti-cheat does not flag rbxfpsunlocker. The tool only reads and writes the in-memory cap value; it does not change any other state and does not interact with the game session. The community consensus is that it is safe to run alongside any normal Roblox play.

That said: anti-cheat behavior can change without notice. If you have a high-value account, run rbxfpsunlocker on an alt first to confirm it is not flagging that week.

When rbxfpsunlocker stops working

Roblox occasionally ships a client update that changes the in-memory layout of the FPS cap variable. When that happens, rbxfpsunlocker stops unlocking until axstin pushes a patch — usually within 24–72 hours of the Roblox update. The GitHub Releases page is the source of truth; the README will note if the current build is broken.

Mac — there is no unlocker

The Roblox Mac client uses Apple's Metal renderer and ties the present frequency to the display's native refresh rate. There is no in-process FPS cap value to rewrite; the cap is enforced by the rendering pipeline itself.

Practical consequence: on a 120 Hz MacBook Pro display, Roblox runs at 120 FPS already (or whatever the system reports as the display rate). On a 60 Hz external monitor, Roblox runs at 60 FPS no matter what. Switching displays changes the cap. There is no software tool that can override this; the renderer simply does not expose the knob.

People will tell you they have an "FPS unlocker for Mac." They are wrong — they are either describing the macOS display rate change above, or running a build of Roblox that does not exist, or running a malware Mac binary that claims to be one. Do not install anything calling itself a Mac FPS unlocker.

Mobile — no unlocker exists, and the ones you see are scams

The biggest myth in this space: that mobile FPS unlockers are real. They are not.

The Roblox mobile client (Android and iOS) caps at 60 FPS by hard-coded design. The cap is enforced server-side in the join handshake on top of any client-side cap, and even a fully-modified Roblox client cannot get more than 60 FPS per scene. The Roblox engineering team has stated this directly: 60 is the limit. (The iPhone ProMotion 120 Hz exception is a separate code path that some experiences enable; you do not control it.)

Every site, video, or APK that claims to "unlock 90/120 FPS on mobile Roblox" falls into one of three buckets:

  • Useless — the tool adjusts the in-game graphics slider and renames it "FPS unlocker." It does not change the cap, but you do see fewer dropped frames because the game is less GPU-bound. Not a lie, exactly, but not what the marketing implies.
  • Mod menu in disguise — the tool is an executor (Arceus X Neo, Delta, etc.) that includes a script claiming to unlock FPS. The script changes graphics quality settings inside the Roblox engine; it cannot change the cap.
  • Malware — the APK or IPA bundles a credential stealer, adware, or a remote-control payload. The "unlocker" part is fake by design.

What you can actually do on mobile to make Roblox feel faster:

  1. Lower graphics quality manually. In the Roblox app: gear icon → Settings → Graphics Quality slider. Set it to 1 or 2 on older devices, 5–7 on flagship phones.
  2. Close background apps. Roblox is memory-hungry; killing other apps frees RAM and reduces frame drops.
  3. Disable battery saver / low-power mode. Both modes throttle the GPU. Roblox will hit cap less consistently when they are on.
  4. Pick experiences that are optimized. Older or smaller-team games are often un-optimized and feel terrible on mobile regardless of hardware. The top-played experiences usually run well on a 2023+ phone.
  5. For iPhone ProMotion (12 Pro and newer): make sure ProMotion is enabled in Settings → Accessibility → Motion → Limit Frame Rate is off. Some experiences will then render at 120 FPS automatically.

That last item is the closest thing to a "mobile FPS unlocker" that exists — and it requires an iPhone Pro, the right OS settings, and a game that opted in. No download, no APK, no risk.

Common questions

Q. Is rbxfpsunlocker safe? Yes. Open-source, audited, widely used. Roblox does not flag it. Download only from github.com/axstin/rbxfpsunlocker/releases — not from a "rbxfpsunlocker.com" mirror.

Q. Why does Defender say rbxfpsunlocker is malware? Because it reads and writes the memory of another process — the same pattern executors use, which is why Defender's heuristic catches it. Add the folder to Defender exclusions.

Q. Can I set FPS to 240 even on a 60 Hz monitor? Yes, but you will tear and waste GPU. Cap at your monitor's refresh rate (or one above it) for the best balance.

Q. My FPS is still 60 after running the unlocker. The unlocker has to be running before Roblox launches, OR it has to detect a running Roblox process. Check the tray icon. If it is there and the FPS is still capped, you are probably looking at a game that has its own in-script wait() cap.

Q. There's a "Bloxstrap" thing that also unlocks FPS. What's the difference? Bloxstrap is a third-party Roblox launcher that bundles rbxfpsunlocker plus other mods. If you want only the FPS unlock, run axstin's tool directly. If you want FPS unlock plus fast flags, mod manager, multi-instance, and custom textures, use Bloxstrap.

Q. Can I use rbxfpsunlocker with an executor? Yes — they touch different parts of the Roblox process and do not conflict.

Q. I'm on Linux running Roblox under Wine/Proton. Roblox itself does not officially support Linux, and the Wine path is increasingly broken since Byfron. rbxfpsunlocker has Linux community ports but they are unmaintained. The realistic answer is: native Roblox does not work on Linux in 2026, and there is no clean FPS unlocker path either.

If you came here looking for a way to push Roblox past 60 FPS on a phone, save the install: it does not exist. The Roblox PC client is the only platform where you actually have the lever, and rbxfpsunlocker is the only tool you need.
