How to put spaces in your Roblox display name

Real spaces fail. The U+2800 Braille blank works. Plus when the trick breaks, the alternatives, and how to do it without any hack.

Updated May 28, 20264 min read

The short version

Roblox does not accept a regular space character ( ) inside a display name. The textbox silently strips it, or the save button greys out, depending on the platform you are on. The real workaround is to paste an invisible Unicode character that the filter treats as a printable glyph but every reader sees as a space.

The character that works in 2026 is ⠀ — the Braille Pattern Blank, code point U+2800. Copy it from the line above (between the backticks) or paste this directly into the display-name field: ⠀

That is the entire trick. Everything else on this page is context: why the trick works, where it fails, and what to do if you want a "spaced" name without using a hack at all.

Why real spaces fail

Display names share the same moderation layer as usernames. The name filter rejects whitespace because spaces in usernames have always been disallowed (every Roblox username is a single contiguous token like Builderman or Bloxxer_99). When display names launched in 2021, the filter was tuned to be slightly more permissive — capital letters, hyphens, some special characters — but the no-whitespace rule was carried over.

There is no toggle, no Premium upgrade, and no region where the regular ASCII space character is permitted in a display name. Anyone telling you otherwise is reading old guidance or describing a different name field (group names, place names, and group ranks all use a separate filter that does allow spaces).

How the Braille blank trick works

Unicode contains dozens of characters that render as visible whitespace but are technically not the space character. The Roblox filter rejects U+0020 (the ASCII space) and a small set of related characters, but it does not block the Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800). On every device that Roblox runs on — Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, console — that character renders as visually empty horizontal space, identical to a real space at standard font sizes.

The result: the filter sees a printable character and lets the name save. Your friends see what looks like a space.

Step by step:

  1. Highlight and copy the character between these brackets: [⠀]. You only need to copy one — repeat the paste step below if you want more than one "space".
  2. Open Roblox, go to Account Settings → Account Info → Display Name.
  3. Click the pencil icon next to your display name to enter edit mode.
  4. Type the first half of your name, paste the character once, type the second half. For example: Big⠀Player → renders as Big Player.
  5. Click Save. If the filter accepts it, you are done. If it rejects, see the troubleshooting section below.

The 7-day cooldown on display-name changes still applies. The trick only changes which characters you can type, not how often you can edit.

Where the trick fails

A handful of edge cases:

  • The filter occasionally bans Braille-blank names retroactively if the name reads as inappropriate, repeats too many U+2800s, or matches a known impersonation pattern. Use one or two, not ten.
  • Some games render Braille-blank as a literal Braille dot when the in-game font does not have a glyph mapping for U+2800. The character is still empty in the Roblox chat overlay and on the website; the rare in-game rendering glitch is on the game's font, not on Roblox.
  • Copy-pasting from this page on mobile sometimes pulls in a regular space along with the Braille blank. Paste, then arrow-key one character left and right to confirm there is no rogue ASCII space. If the save button greys out, that is what happened.
  • Multiple consecutive Braille blanks read as one wider space in most contexts, which is what you want. Using five in a row to pad a name out works, but the moderation team has flagged extreme padding before — keep it under three.

Alternative characters that also work

The Braille blank is the cleanest option, but other invisible Unicode characters pass the filter too. They behave slightly differently in chat overlays and on different platforms, so the right one depends on your taste:

  • U+2800 Braille Pattern Blank — the recommended choice. Same visual width as a normal space at most font sizes.
  • U+3164 Hangul Filler — slightly wider than a space. Used to be the most common workaround in 2021–2022; now flagged more often than U+2800.
  • U+115F Hangul Choseong Filler — similar to U+3164 but more reliable on iOS.
  • U+180E Mongolian Vowel Separator — zero-width on most platforms, so it does not actually produce a visible gap. Useful for stitching two words tight together but does not solve the "I want a space" problem.

If you only ever remember one, remember U+2800.

Saving a name without using the trick

Roblox accepts characters that function as separators without being spaces, and they look fine on profiles:

  • Underscore (_) — Big_Player. Filter-safe, universally readable.
  • Hyphen (-) — Big-Player. Cleaner than underscore.
  • Period (.) — Big.Player. Works.
  • Camel case with no separator — BigPlayer. The Roblox community reads this as one word and the moderation system has zero problems with it.

These are not as visually clean as a real space, but they are immune to future Roblox filter changes — if Roblox ever decides to start rejecting U+2800, anyone using the Braille trick wakes up to a defaulted display name and has to wait out the 7-day cooldown before they can fix it.

Quick FAQ

Q. Will Roblox ban me for using U+2800 in my display name? There has never been a moderation action driven solely by the character. Roblox bans display names for content (slurs, impersonation, hate, sexual material). The Braille blank is a character, not a message.

Q. Does the trick work on the mobile app? Yes, but you need to copy the character into the clipboard first — most mobile keyboards do not have U+2800 on the symbol pages. Copy it on desktop, send it to yourself in a chat, then long-press to paste in the Roblox mobile name field.

Q. Can I have a leading or trailing space? Trailing spaces are stripped on save. Leading spaces sometimes survive, but they break alphabetical ordering on leaderboards and trigger an auto-rename on a small fraction of games. Avoid.

Q. What about emoji? Roblox blocks the vast majority of emoji from display names. The handful that pass (typically older Unicode emoji like ☆, ✿, ✦) are useful as separators between words and combine well with the Braille blank for stylized names.

Q. Is there a 2026 update where Roblox just allows real spaces? Not at time of writing. Roblox has tested "real-name" display flows in some markets for age-verified accounts, but those are tied to legal-name verification and not exposed as a normal display-name feature. The filter still rejects U+0020.

The Braille-blank workaround has been stable since the display-name feature launched. It is the closest thing Roblox has to an unofficial space.
